Your first priority is to get yourself and your family home safely. Build the financial controls before an incident. During immediate danger, protecting assets is secondary to preserving life.
This handbook is for people whose real or perceived crypto wealth could attract attention, and for their partners, relatives, assistants and household teams. You do not need to meet a particular net worth threshold. A public wallet, a visible role or a rumour can create exposure even when the rumour is wrong.
Do these ten things first
- Choose one trusted emergency contact and a backup. Agree how they will verify you, reach local help and respond if you miss a check in.
- Put the local police and ambulance numbers, your address and your contact on paper. Your phone may be unavailable.
- Stop posting live locations, hotel details, family routines, wallet balances and travel dates. Ask companions to do the same.
- Limit what your everyday phone and travel devices can spend or recover. Count exchange access, email resets and cloud backups, not just wallet balances.
- Keep long term reserves out of the everyday spending workflow. Have a specialist review who can move them and who can change those rules.
- Secure the email and cloud accounts that recover your other accounts. Use phishing resistant authentication where supported, with a tested backup.
- Give family and staff permission to pause any unusual request, including one apparently from you. Verify through an existing independent channel.
- Check who can enter your home, see your movements, access cameras or reset your locks. Remove unnecessary access.
- Before travelling, verify documents, local laws, medical access, communications and a practical return or shelter plan.
- Practise losing your phone and receiving a fake family emergency. Use dummy accounts and scenarios, never real recovery words.
If you only have an hour
Start with emergency contacts, phone protection and an honest inventory of immediately accessible assets. Ask a trusted person to check that your emergency card makes sense. Do not migrate your reserves hurriedly to complete a checklist.
The limit of this guide: it provides general protective practices and sourced destination context. It has not yet been reviewed by your security expert. Personal threat assessments, custody design and jurisdiction specific legal decisions need the relevant professionals. No city, wallet or security arrangement guarantees safety.
Evidence and recommendations: bracketed source links support factual claims. Checklists, examples, review intervals and drill targets are proposed operating practices, not measured safety guarantees. [S01] [S03]
