United Arab Emirates

Dubai and the United Arab Emirates

Before committing: check regional alerts, flight operations, insurance and the actual legal entity behind any crypto service. A busy business calendar does not settle those questions.

Emergency: police 999, ambulance 998, fire 997. Save your property's exact address, entrance and local contact. [S20]

What changes the plan here

At the 27 October 2026 research check, UK official advice warned that regional conditions remained unpredictable, with possible escalation, flight cancellations and airspace closures. Treat this as a dated advisory snapshot, not a prediction. Recheck your own government's advice, UAE instructions and the airline before travel and during the stay. [S21]

For Dubai meetings, verify the office and counterparties before attending. For a villa, yacht, desert outing or private afterparty, assess independent transport, communications and how help would reach you. Do not combine a first meeting, an isolated venue and a financial transfer.

For stays in a tower or compound, establish how security handles visitors, vehicle access and after hours incidents. Confirm the correct entrance for an ambulance; a landmark name alone may be insufficient in a large development. Treat property agents, concierges and drivers as service providers with limited information needs.

Crypto and legal checks

VARA's scope covers relevant virtual asset activity in Dubai excluding DIFC. Other UAE jurisdictions have different regulatory arrangements. Check the regulator that actually applies to the firm and activity. [S24]

VARA's public register distinguishes fully licensed firms from in principle approvals. Its register states that an IPA does not authorise operations or serving clients. Verify entity, status, activity and official contact details independently. A licence does not guarantee solvency or make a private introducer an authorised representative. [S23]

Local rules on conduct, drugs, privacy and online behaviour can differ materially from those at home. Obtain current advice for medication, business activity or a dispute. Do not rely on an agent's assurance that a problem can be fixed informally. [S22]

Practical trip settings

  • Keep normal spending available without a last minute OTC conversion.
  • Avoid signing after nightlife or during an unverified private meeting.
  • Plan for heat exposure and reliable transport on outdoor activities.
  • If official instructions require shelter, follow them. Do not go outside to observe or film an incident.
  • Keep a funded extended stay option. A second booking through the same affected airspace may not be a meaningful backup.

Departure check: route operating, documents valid, insurer informed where required, household covered if delayed, and trusted contact available.

What to take from it

A physical office and a broker are parts of the setup, not independent evidence that a business is legitimate. Verification needs to happen before cash, devices and people come together in a room.
